Is it possible to learn from tragedy? How can we create a learning environment in which key players can understand what happened and improve practice - without blaming and shaming each other?
We know that bringing whole systems together to inquire into their strengths and successes enables people to create new and exciting possibilities. The principles of Appreciative Inquiry hold great possibilities for safeguarding and we are developing a new model for Serious Case Reviews.
We still aim to build on people’s strengths, asking questions about times when people have recovered from tragedy and troubled times. What gives us the courage and focus to recover from a mistake or accident, or a time when everything was lost? By focusing our attention here, we can learn about recovery and start to build up shattered morale, devastated systems and bring about positive change.
This section includes some documents and powerpoint presentations about our emerging model. If you want to know more or would like to contribute your ideas, please contact me.
